The 2015 IMC has been fully booked and the registration has been closed sooner than expected (29 June 2015). In case of any cancellations some places may become available again. If you are too late to register, you may inform the LOC about your interest to participate (imc2015@imo.net). A waiting list will be kept and people will be contacted whenever any registered participant cancels her/his registration.
Welcome to the website of the International Meteor Conference (IMC) 2015, organized by the Wiener Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Astronomie (Vienna Astronomy Association – WAA), which will be held at Mistelbach, Austria from August 27 (Thursday evening) until August 30 (Sunday lunchtime).
Mistelbach is a small town (11.000 inhabitants), some 45 km north-north-east of the capital of Austria, Vienna, and 25-30 km from the Czech and Slovakian border.
Mistelbach can easily be reached by plane (via Vienna, Bratislava or Brno airport) and is well connected to other parts of Lower Austria and the capital Vienna by train and bus. There are also bus connections to the nearby Czech Republic and Slovakia as well as to Hungary. It lies very close to motorway A 5 (Nord Autobahn) between Vienna and Schrick.
The conference will be held at the MAMUZ Museum Mistelbach, only a few minutes walk from the Landwirtschaftliche Fachschule (Agricultural School), which serves as host for full-board-participants (Option 1 in the registration form: “Shared room in the IMC host”). Both sites are not far from the town’s centre. Participants voting for “Accommodation outside the IMC host” (Option 3 in the registration form) will be housed in the alternative accommodation “Hotel Klaus” in Wolkersdorf, nearly halfway between Mistelbach and the Vienna border. There will be a shuttle service to bring the participants from Wolkersdorf to the conference venue and back. Those participants who neither want to stay at the Agricultural School nor at the “Hotel Klaus” can contact the LOC via Email (imc2015@imo.net) for another alternative accommodation. In that case the LOC will only act as an intermediate. There is even a public camp ground in Poysdorf, about 10 minutes by car from Mistelbach.
On Saturday afternoon an excursion to the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien (NHM) – Museum of Natural History in Vienna – is planned. The museum hosts the largest and probably most important meteorite collection in the world. A guided tour with a meteorite expert will be offered. In the evening we will return to Mistelbach and visit a “Heuriger”, a typical wine restaurant. The “Heuriger” lies very close to the Agricultural School.
The standard registration fee (Option 1 in the registration form) for a shared triple room at the school is € 150.- until 31 May 2015 and € 180.- after this date. Non-accommodated participants (Option 2) and those voting for an accommodation outside the IMC host (Option 3) are charged € 100.- until 31 May 2015 and € 130.- after this date. Any alternative accommodation has to be paid together with the non-accommodation fee in advance (see registration form).
The standard registration fee includes 3 nights of accommodation in a triple room (Thursday, August 27 to Sunday, August 30) at the Agricultural School, full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner; except beverages other than plain water), all IMC lectures and the poster session, coffee breaks, the excursion to the NHM and the Saturday evening programme (“Heuriger”), T-shirt, conference material and the IMC proceedings. Unless the “no accommodation” option is chosen, accompanying persons older than 12 years sharing a room with a participant also have to register as such. Do not forget to tell the LOC with whom you want to share a room.
The non-accommodation fee comprises all conference benefits except accommodation and breakfast. Room rates at the “Hotel Klaus” including breakfast are as follows: € 42,50 for a double room and € 60.- for a single room at the hotel, € 35.- for a double room and € 50.- for a single room at the adjacent guesthouse, (all per night, per person).
Austria has never been the place for an IMC before. Therefore the new location may be attractive for both European residents and guests from overseas.
