The International Meteor Conference 2008 will be held at the Šachtička hotel.
Šachtička is the name of a known touristic site popular mainly for winter sports. Šachtička is 1000 m above sea level and is 8 km
from the city of Banská Bystrica. Banská Bystrica is the most important historical, cultural
and economic centre of central Slovakia. The city is also the seat of the administration of the Banská Bystrica Region. Banská Bystrica
is on the banks of the river Hron and surrounded by beautiful mountains. The first written reference about the city dates
back to 1255. Banská Bystrica was known as a mining town. Gold, silver, lead and copper were once mined here.
Nowadays it is a modern town with more than 80 thousand inhabitants. Close to the city, on top of the hill Vartovka, lies the Astronomical
Observatory Banská Bystrica. In the past Vartovka served as a watchtower.

The venue
The conference hall at the hotel holds up to 136 people. The conference
hall will also host the posters. All modern equipment is available in the
conference room, including internet connections.
Sleeping
Accommodation is possible either in double rooms or in double rooms with an extra bed. Each room has ensuite toilet and shower and a TV. Please indicate in the registration form with whom you want to share a room. There are no single rooms, but for an extra fee of 30 EUR you can have a double room all for yourself.
In case you arrive earlier or leave later, we can arrange a room for you in the hotel at 65 EUR per night for a double room. Please contact the organization committee if you want to make use of this.
